MSCA organised a fruitful discussion on METAVERSE (a virtual environment that fulfills certain inherent requirements of a future city) in Malaysia Urban Forum 2022. A concept similar to the metaverse called digital twins can significantly aid smart city planning through economic development, reduction of ecological footprint, and enhancing the overall quality of citizens’ lives. In this session, expertise involved moderator, Dr. Ahmad Fazreen, MSCA Member as well as panelists; Mr. Muhammad Shahrul Hafidz Bin Ab. Rahim, Principal Assistant State Secretary of Melaka Economic Planning Unit (UPEN Melaka), Mr. Noremi Mohamad Darwi, Deputy Director, Town Planning Department of Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah (MBMB), Madam Nor Hasyimah binti Tamziz, Director of ICT Department of Majlis Perbandaran Klang and Mr. Edern Tan, Co-Founder of WORLDX, Hatten Group, was invited to share their own views and opinions in defining METAVERSE, understanding its impact on smart city planning, and the best approach in deploying METAVERSE in cities services.
