KUCHING, July 29: Sarawak has been regarded as a digital powerhouse since the commencement of its digital economy agenda in 2018.

According to Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), in a statement today, during a courtesy visit from Malaysia Smart Cities Alliance Association (MSCA) to SMA, its general manager Dr Zaidi Razak said this is proven by the increasing interest from government agencies from other states and industry experts.

“We are honoured that we are able to attract interests from various parties.

“We believe that public-private and community partnership involving all stakeholders is important because this will provide a platform to bring about successful economic transformation and growth for the betterment of all Sarawakians,” he said.

During the courtesy visit, Zaidi shared with the delegation on Sarawak’s plan to capitalise on digital technologies to maximise digital value and deliver simple, secure, and trusted service for the benefit of the people.

Meanwhile, MSCA chairman and senior vice president of Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), Dr Raslan Ahmad, said with Sarawak’s vast experience in its digitalisation policy, they are keen to establish a cooperation with Sarawak through SMA to achieve a common goal for a sustainable smart nation.

“We hope to establish a cooperation with SMA because we believe the success stories and best practices by Sarawak under the leadership of SMA should be emulated by other states in Malaysia, and perhaps at the global level,” he said.

Raslan also explained that MSCA is a platform established for the council members to deliberate on Smart City’s issues and challenges and create opportunities for networking among stakeholders.

He said MSCA consists of cross-sector participations from the government and its agencies, smart cities services and solution providers, industry players, and academia.

“Thus, forming a new structure comprising founding members, innovators, and funders governed by the strategic objectives, with specific roles and responsibilities for members,” he added. — DayakDaily
